  • Banners a Visible Marketing Tool

Written by gforscher on December 2nd, 2008 in Banner Advertising.

Attracting peoples attention to your website and keeping it there without having them scoot off to somewhere else is what effective websites and marketing campaigns are all about. One graphic tool that can be used to draw attention is called a web banner.

Banners can either have motion or no motion, but they are there to attract your attention and when you click on them you are directed to another webpage or website. They are advertisements for something and can catch your eye more that just routine text. By being in picture form they can more readily give one a concept which can be important as otherwise you might loose traffic as people may not take the time to read the text. If the banner is connected with a payperclick campaign, the person who is advertising will be charged the amount that is specified in their campaign for the keyword the banner is related to.

In the earlier 1900s banners began to show up on the internet and companies wanting to promote their products and providing affiliate programs began to also provide banners for others to used to direct people to that companies website. The banners are in a variety of different but standard sizes and shapes so that they will fit easily onto a variety of websites.

Banners are produced by creating software which graphically depicts the image one desires to portray. The software also typically has tracking capability so one is able to see where the clicks on the banner came from, how many times they were clicked and if a sale was made from the click on the banner. This information can be used to tweak your campaign and make it more productive by zeroing in on where your sales and traffic are coming from. This benefit is not present with more traditional forms of advertisement such as with a magazine or newspaper.

You can find banners on line which are free and simple or you can find companies which provided custom banners and purchase these. Some knowledge of html coding is necessary to produce these. They can be 3 dimensional and quite sophisticated and your budget may be the determining factor on which way you go.

Whereas in the past flashing banners were considered a way to attract attention to your site, now the use of these may be considered a negative point, offensive and more subtle, professional and artistic means are being used.

If one is trying to build links to their site, banners can be exchanged with the idea of creating a mutual building of traffic betweens sites.
It is also possible to pay to have your banner put on another site for more expose and more traffic. There are exchange networks that do this sort of thing but you need to be aware of where they place them so they are not located where you might not want them.

Banners are a tool for your use which you can research and make them work for you.
