Secrets Revealed - How To Convert Traffic To Your Website

Written by askdoctormax on Monday, May 11th, 2009 in Converting Traffic.

Well, it is simple if you pay attention to the details. Here are 12 traffic conversion secrets that even a newcomer to Internet marketing can do:

    1. Fine tune your Unique Selling Proposition (USP). What makes your product different, special, better or more worthy? That is the USP. Now get the answer to that question down to one or two concise sentences.

    2. Sound friendly, not slick. Your sales copy needs to sound like one friend excited to tell another friend about a great buy. Avoid sounding like a high-pressure infomercial.

    3. Ask for help. Give the viewers a reason to interact with you by asking for their opinion on a research or product rating. You get useful information and keep them thinking about your product for a long time.

    4. Simplify the offering. If you have two different products to sell, use two websites. Do not make the mistake of trying to offer too much at once. This might work for major marketers, but they already have a product line and a following.

    5. Leave some free space. Prepare a sales page that is easy to read with wide margins. You do not have to fill every inch. Leaving some white space helps the reader to better focus on the copy.

    6. Brag openly. If your product has a good rating or endorsements from satisfy buyers, then let them brag about the product for you.

    7. Cast with plenty of bait. In your sales copy and squeeze page, put out the bait for your offer again and again. Do not stint on bait. Better too many offers than not enough to convert that buyer who is still uncertain.

    8. Find difficulty. Even after your sales page is complete, keep thinking about other difficulties that your product can resolve. You might get a hint of new ways to advertise your product by asking buyers how they use the product.

    9. Use moderate highlighting. Yes, highlights draw visual attention but too many highlights or excessive colors frustrate online readers.

    10. Package offers are more popular. After presenting your USP, sweeten the offer with a package including several free items as part of the Buy Now deal. Limited time offers create a sense of imperativeness for the buyer to react.

    11. Ask for the order. An old principle of sales that must never be ignored - ask for the order, ask again then ask again. You can not ask various times.

    12. Say Thank you. Have a gracious, personal sounding, Thank you email with the order confirmation. It never hurts to show good manners and buyer appreciation!

Tactics For Recessionary Times Documented By New Study

Written by eSources on Monday, May 11th, 2009 in Converting Traffic.

The recession is global; every retailer is feeling the pinch. Research suggests that it is tougher on bricks and mortar retailers but online retailers are taking a hit as well.

Fortunately, online retailers are the ultimate nimble sellers and they are quickly responding with changing tactics designed to recapture lost business by appealing to the ‘I need a bargain’ point of view common to todays Internet purchasers.

The E-tailing Group, an e-commerce consulting organization, recently completed a study of online merchants meant to capture the changes being implemented at this time. The results are in some ways predictable and in other ways as ingenious as you might expect from this group of business people.

    Clearance Areas

More merchants are either establishing or emphasizing their clearance sales as 86% of merchants noted, up from 72% the year before. Many merchants are creating large banner signs that dominate the page announcing Deal of the Day, Close Outs or Clearance/Sale Items.

    Limited Hour Sales

There has been a huge jump in the limited hour sales strategy from 18% to 42%. These sales are often one day, lunch hour or tonight only type offerings which force purchasers into a buying decision.

    Quantity Purchases

Online retailers are offering discounts for quantity purchases (20%; not measured last year) but there has been a decline in the buy one, get one free offer (down to 6% this year from 8% last year) which is apparently viewed as too generous an offer. Similarly, the tactic of gift with purchase declined from 62% to 44% during this time period.

    Contests

The lure of the opportunity to win has become clear and is being used by 43% of respondents versus 32% last year.

    Coupons/Other Deals with purchase

There is a slight trend towards couponing and a greater trend towards rewarding a sale with a discount on the next sale (4% to 11%).

    Shipping

Shipping opportunities continue to be a strong source of establishing competitive advantage. While free shipping remains an uncommon offer at 8%, free shipping under certain conditions has gone up as much as 9% and free shipping to a store has gone up 11%.

If you are struggling with declining sales revenue or declining conversion rates, you may want to consider adopting one or more of these strategies. However, as with any marketing tactic, you need to do the analysis to be sure that the cost of the tactic, e.g., 10% loss of revenue on certain products, will be made up by the increase in volume of sales.

If you are concerned about margins, you may want to begin with tactics that don’t necessarily cost upfront revenue such as time-limited sales, emphasizing your sale items on landing pages or contests which limit the prize to just a few items or deals.

    Boost Conversions With Painless Shopping

Written by eSources on Sunday, May 10th, 2009 in Converting Traffic.

Have you ever visited a site, liked the products, wanted to buy the products, tried to buy the products and got so annoyed by the purchasing process that you gave up and went elsewhere? It happens all the time because many online sellers do not get the basics right.

    What are the basics?

    - Clear instructions.
    - Clear, customer-friendly policies.
    - Honest, up front information.
    - All the necessary options and supports.

Here are some tips to getting it right to minimize abandoned shopping carts on your site.

    - Be sure that you have provided all of the necessary product information so that the buyer can make a choice, i.e. size, color, quantity, optional features.

    - Let your customer know immediately if the product is not available. Do not make them wait until they get to the shopping cart or even worse, to the end of the ordering process, to find out that they will have to wait. For example, establish a system that greys out sizes that are not available or indicates a backorder delivery date. Or, create system that pops up a message about your re-stocking date.

    - Do not make your buyer wait until the last page to determine shipping costs, especially if they might be considered high. Your site will feel like a bait and switch operation. Even if your shopping carts sequence gets to shipping towards the end, give customers an idea of how shipping works on the first order page or give them the option of clicking into a shipping description.

    - Create a pathway at the top of your shopping pages that tells the buyer where they are and allows them to go back and forth in the process without losing their information. If the buyer takes a wrong turn in the process, build in a re-direction with explanation.

    - Allow the customer to click back to the product page. So they can compare products and be sure they have what they want.

    - Make it easy to find your policies on returns, guarantees of product quality and so on. Try to find the balance between the legal language you feel you need and the plain language that your customer will appreciate.

    - Provide a currency converter so that your customer does not need to guess at what it is really going to cost.

    - Provide several payment methods. Credit cards are not universally common so be sure your customers can use other methods such as PayPal, electronic bank transfer and so on.

    - Give your buyer the option of talking to someone in person, even if it is only for limited hours each day. Some people just can not figure things out or they have questions that you have not anticipated. Plus, supplying a phone number gives your site a credibility that many sites lack.

Buyers generally dislike sites where there is no option for personal contact or where it is possible, but you need to go through many, many screens to find a phone number buried underneath all of the directions to email or read the FAQs.

Finally, be a student of shopping. You are probably shopping online yourself. Evaluate everyones shopping process. Think about your own responses and apply the lessons to your site.

Successful Blogs Create Successful Online Retailers

Written by eSources on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 in Converting Traffic.

Just when you think you have done everything you need to create a successful selling site (fabulous pictures, highly reliable and functional shopping cart and payment gateway, well-thought out policies and customer service system, great products at a fair price, maybe even some solid content that helps your purchasers), you find that the Web has changed again.

Now, with the advent of social media, you need to be more than a sales site, you need to be a social site as well. Yes, that is true and it’s okay, great really. You need to learn some new skills but you will get a great deal in return; you will have a constant, direct path to your customers and that is a wonderful way to continually learn and improve.

So what’ss a blog? According to Wikipedia, A blog (a contraction of the term weblog) is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video.Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order.

How is a blog different from a forum or chat area? A forum is generally a more structured setting where users register and select among various discussion threads. Forums are more concretely themed. A blog is more like a running diary that can include comments from anyone who chooses to join. They are not organized by topic.

Why is a blog useful? Blogs provide many advantages.

    - You can establish yourself as an expert in your area of retail sales by providing information through your blog.

    - Blogs are considered dynamic, i.e., the content is always changing so the search engines are much more interested.

    - Blogs are easy to set up and manage with some of the more popular blogging software such as Wordpress.

    - You can establish an RSS feed from your blog to your customer so you are always providing fresh new insights and information to them.

    - You can interact very directly and casually with your customers. Get to know exactly how they are feeling, pose questions to help you understand the market. The blog is a fabulous research tool!

    - Keeps your customers coming back to your site; develops site stickiness!

How do you create a blog? Start with Wordpress, then add Feedburner, which equips site owners to broadcast RSS feeds and develop user metrics. Next, synch up Google Analytics and a sitemap plug-in to simplify populating the blog and developing useful, actionable metrics.

Now you’re ready to use blogging to sell more products!

The term residual income means that you do some action once and will enjoy profits during a long period of time. Sounds an excellent way to make money online. The starting point for this model is to write a business plan which really works in praxis.

Examples from many other businesses testify, that if someone wants to sell something repeatedly, he must be of a high quality. When the quality is a very personal attribute, it is wise if the brand image target for an individual online entrepreneur is personal. To try to build an expert image is wise, especially during a long period of time.

1.The Sharper Is Your Brand, The Better Are Your Results.

When you plan, what online business niche or segment you will serve and how you will do it to get residual income, you will get all the important answers to your future online business. We can say, that the sharper your positioning is, the better results you will get, because with this model people know, what they can get from you.

    2. You Could Look Your Online Business As A Service Company.

This requires a service attitude. In a way your online business website looks like a newspaper, which has every time something new to offer.

An online business website cannot offer new things every time, but it can offer so much useful things, that a visitor has always something more to find out. Now you guess that to make a residual income you have to know the needs of your target audience.

    3. Select Affiliate Programs With Multitier Earnings Structure.

This is a very simple way how to make money on the internet repeatedly. The Net offers many multitier affiliate programs, which pay two or three levels deep. This means that when your affiliate gets an affiliate, who buys something, you also can make a small commission.

In this model it is important to help your downline to build big downlines. Actually it means, that your downline will copy your systems in order to transfer them further. But to be able to get the train going, your help is needed.

    4. Produce All The Contents By Yourself.

One aspect is important. An ability to make residual income means that your contents follow your positioning statement. The contents have greatest power to build your brand image, the trust. When you will write everything by yourself, it has a great power for image building.

    5. Repeated Customers Need New Things Regularly.

You have to keep the interest of your customers high all the time. This requires that you add new things regularly into your website and into the marketing material. In general people love new things but especially repeated customers wait those.

I can say from my experience that the quality is the best success factor in any marketing efforts of the online business opportunity. With the word quality I mean a perceived quality, i.e. that quality, which your target audience has in their minds. Here are the requirements.

    1. Your Online Business Opportunity Just Have To Be Able To Stand Out From The Crowd.

If nobody will notice your online business opportunity, why to run it online? The basic idea of online marketing is to get lots of attention from the people in the selected target group. Additionally your marketing efforts must be different, so that the target people will note them from the crowd of many other promises.

    2. You Have To Grab The Surfer Interest By Promising Useful Things To Him In A Sexy Way.

The world of advertising is wonderful. We have to promise benefits, which are rational, but in the end of the day, all decisions are made by feelings. When you plan to increase the conversion rate of your home based business opportunity website, you have to utilize this truth.

It is not enough to promise a useful thing. On the top of that you have to do it in a tempting way, so that your promise makes the person to want your offer. This want is totally emotional feeling. When you have succeeded to do this, the call to action element must follow immediately.

    3. Make Your Target Group Research Thoroughly.

To be able to influence on the target persons of your home business opportunity, it is clear that you have to know them well enough. The research in the net gives you enough insight about these people, but it is important to make this research well and to think the typical person in your target group repeatedly.

    4. A High Conversion Rate Requires A Narrow Positioning.

We can say that the internet market is big enough for whatever niche offer. This means that your positioning can be very narrow. Many people think that the website should offer always a wide range of products and services, but this is not strategically wise.

As you see from the above text, to reach a high conversion rate is the result of planned and thought ideas. There is no secret in them and you can very easily reach them, when you take the time to plan them in advance and then to follow your plan.

Use Social Networking To Find New Audiences For Your Product

Written by eSources on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 in Converting Traffic.

According to the Chief Marketing Officer Council (CMO):
62% of CEOs surveyed believe that social media can have a direct impact on a company’s overall reputation, 61% believe it can affect a company’s reputation on issues, and 48% believe social media can directly affect sales of products and services.

However, only 16% of those CEOs surveyed indicated their companies use any system to monitor online conversations about their brands.

Bloggers have become powerful influencers in the Internet world and the smart online retailer will pull that blogging sphere of influence into its own retail orbit.

First, you have to find those bloggers who can help you. You do not necessarily have to court the A-Listers, i.e., the bloggers with a huge audience following who will pay little or no attention to your business if it is not very important to them. There are probably many, many bloggers out there who have audiences that can be useful to you.

Sally Falkow, Social Media Strategist and President, Expansion Plus, says:

When you find a group of bloggers who are important to you, do your homework. Read their blogs, find a post that’s relevant to you, leave a comment, comment again, see if they are on Twitter, follow them and reply to their tweets. That way, you will get on their radar and start to have a real relationship with them. That relationship will begin to draw the blogger and his/her following closer to your business and your products.

You can find blogs that can work to your advantage by using Technorati. Technorati is an Internet search engine for searching blogs, competing with Google and Yahoo. As of June 2008, Technorati indexes 112.8 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media.

Here is the key to attracting these new blogosphere audiences rather than driving them away. Recognise that the people following blogs do not want to hear your product hype. They do want to hear useful, plain language information about the product, innovations in the field, technical issues that may require extra help and counsel about how to use, choose, care for and profit from purchase of your product.

The more authentic you are and the more useful the information you provide, the more likely you are to drive new traffic with a high conversion rate potential to your site.

Once you have achieved status among these groups of product users, you have a market research system at your disposal. Many companies spend millions of dollars trying to figure out what their customers think. You can engage in a community with your market segment and collect that market feedback for the cost of your time online chatting.

Online Marketing Not Working? Use Copywriting to Create Value

Written by CathyG on Thursday, April 23rd, 2009 in Converting Traffic.

Every year, thousands of independent professionals promise themselves, “This will be the year I get more clients and really start to make serious money online.” Or they say, “This is the year I will use the Internet to do the work so I can enjoy serving clients, relaxing with my family and doing what really matters.”

But about halfway through the year (starting somewhere in April), most of these business owners begin to feel discouraged. The challenge seems overwhelming. You have to get more subscribers. You need to recruit clients to sign up (not just ask for a free call). You need to maintain your social media presence, write articles and maybe overhaul your website.

So they stop trying. Maybe they invest more time in their day jobs or turn to live networking. Or they work with so-so clients because hey, the good ones seem to be going somewhere else.

Others decide to hang in there and wait for the economy to get better. Or they vow to burn more midnight oil. Or they lower prices and offer more free stuff.

But “free stuff” and “fear” won’t lead to success in any economy. Often they are related. Feel scared no one wants what you offer? Just give it away.

Now you’ve got a vicious spiral. You’re known for free stuff. So you attract weak clients (or no clients). You get even more scared. Now you really don’t want to raise prices.

What’s the alternative? Create a game plan, piece by piece, with a solid foundation based on delivering value, not reacting from fear. Make sure your market is hungry.

Learn the basic skill you need to survive and thrive on the Internet: online copywriting. It’s different from other types of writing, such as tech writing and even how-to books.

Online copywriting is different because website visitors aren’t strolling past a storefront in the local mall. They don’t walk past a shop window and think, “A new type of cookware! I never thought of buying those things for my own kitchen. But I’ll go in and see what they’ve got.”

Instead, visitors arrive at your site for a reason. For example, their dog has been chewing up the furniture. They are searching for specific solutions to this specific problem and they want answers to specific questions. Will your product or service solve their problem?

Your online content has to reach these hungry clients by mirroring their emotions. They aren’t looking for the word “free.” They’re looking for strong sentences that relate directly to their own challenges. If you can respond, you’re on your way to making significant money on the Internet.

And now I invite you to find out more by visiting

Creating The Right Optin For Your Squeeze Pages

Written by pmutrie on Tuesday, April 21st, 2009 in Converting Traffic.

Throughout all my years of online business, Squeeze Pages, also known as an Optin page or as my good friend Alex Mandossian calls them; a Shy Yes page; this major question comes up every year and it always ranks the top 5 questions on my list.

The Question is, “What type of optin is better to use on my squeeze page? Single or Double?” Here’s my answer and best solution to this scenario.

This is a very good question because I want to let you know that it is very important not to steer towards a single!

A single Optin is where a prospect gives you their first name and primary Email address and as soon as they click the “Click Here To Get My Goodies” button, they are automatically confirmed without having to check their email account in order to confirm their subscription, before getting the goodies.

Why is this a bad way to set up your subscriptions on your squeeze pages?

It goes like this. What if the prospect that visited your page entered in a bogus first name and Email address? Well they get the goods and you start creating headaches. Why headaches? Well, when you allow automatic confirmation and your Autoresponder service starts sending your programmed Emails to a bogus Email address, you start getting SPAM COMPLAINTS. This is exactly why I highly recommend you use a double for your online squeeze pages.

    Here’s why!

A double Optin allows your prospect to enter in their first name and their primary Email address. Your Autoresponder service automatically sends out a confirmation Email to that prospect for them to confirm their subscription before they get the goods. In the mean while, after they clicked the submit button, they are also redirected to a thank you page where they are directed by you that they will not get any goodies until they go to their Email account to confirm their subscription. Once they go to their email account and confirm their subscription, the Autoresponder service automatically redirects them to the thank you page you created with all the goodies available to them.

It is a bit of a pain, I know. When it comes to getting a bad reputation for sending SPAM ATTEMPTS from your Autoresponder service, the extra little work you do will benefit you in the long run of your online business, thus creating no headaches.

Creating the right squeeze page can be one of the most difficult things anyone can ever do. They may look easy, but there is actually a science to creating the perfect squeeze page.

List Building With JV Giveaway Events

Written by pmutrie on Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 in Converting Traffic.

Are you new to the Internet and are you starting on from scratch. How on earth are you expected to earn an income if you don’t have your own list of subscribers?

Imagine that within 7 days your list size can grow from a tidily 50 or 100 subscribers, to a whopping 1,000 or even 2,000 subscribers.

People LOVE free stuff. And there are three words that can change your list building strategies and it’s called a “JV Giveaway Events”.

JV Giveaway events are events that effectively drive web traffic to your personal or business landing page - helping you in building your list of subscribers. It is made up of a group of marketers who promote related products. A contributor must have something free to offer. Expanding your subscriber database will become much easier!

    What is a JV?

JV stands for Joint Venture - A joint venture is a business endeavor that combines two or more entrepreneurs together. The parties join forces to create a new product, service, or website, etc. Now combine that with a Giveaway! You then have two or more parties combining forces to give away free products. Thus we have a Joint Venture Giveaway Event.

Here are the three important necessities required to set up your profile in order to become a contributor.

    1 - Your Squeeze Page

You must provide a squeeze page (also known as an opt-in) that contains a sign up form to your free product.

2 - Your Redirect Landing Page

This is the landing page where visitors will be redirected to after they have signed up on your squeeze page. It is normally a thank you page that tells the visitor that they must confirm their email address within their email account before they get their free product.

3 - The Direct Download Page

You must provide your direct download page when setting up your JV Giveaway Event profile to your free gift. This is a must and this is how you get approved to be a part of these great programs. If you do not provide the direct download page link, your gift will not be approved and you will not be able to take part in the program.

In conclusion, this is one of the most cost effective and economical ways to build a secure mailing list and at the same time you are building a know, like and trust relationship with your subscribers as you are giving a valuable product absolutely Free! If you decide to not sign up as an upgraded member to the program, then sign up as a Free contributor and promote the program so that your gift will be displayed.

I look forward to seeing your entries and your success online!
