Copywriting for Twitter to Support Your Online Business

Written by CathyG on Tuesday, May 12th, 2009 in Building Traffic.

Online business marketing typically includes social marketing. Increasingly social marketing has come to mean participating in Twitter.

But many business fail to realize that their Twitter accounts need to be set up to build relationships with prospective clients, allies, suppliers and joint venture partners. Instead, they often focus on getting a nice photo and a clever, show-stopping background.

Graphic images are critical, but visitors will want to know something about who you are. They are asking themselves, “Do I want to follow this person?” If you’re trying to make connections with prospective business allies, it makes sense to help them identify you easily.

This challenges call for a special form of copywriting. Your first copywriting challenge is to create a bio that skips “cute” in favor of sharing a direct, concise statement about you and your business. Your second challenge is to create a landing page designed to meet the needs of visitors who come from Twitter instead of the search engines.

Recently I came across a business owner who had found a home on Twitter. Her tweets — the 140-character posts that Twitter allows — suggested she was a business consultant who specialized in a particular target market. My client was also targeting this very narrow, very specialized niche.

Of course I took a quick peek at the consultant’s 140-character online bio. Like many online business owners, she tried to play down her skills. She wanted to sound like an all-around nice person. So she listed a number of qualities (I’m disguising the details): mom, consultant, foodie, member of religious group, lively, sports nut and so on.

But what I really wanted to see was something like, “I work with solo-preneurs who like to cook and want to become profitable personal chefs.” Or, “I work with dentists who are trying to reach clients interested in major cosmetic changes.” I wanted to know if she worked with a specific target market and if she helped other who wanted to reach that market. If the answers were “yes” and “yes,” I could refer her to my own client.

So I skipped over to the live link she provided, hoping for a website that would make everything clear. Did I discover what this business owner offered? No! I found a nice photo and a brief sales pitch to sign up for her ezine.

Squeeze pages often make sense for capturing opt-in information from website visitors who find you through search engines. They know what they’re looking for. They mainly want to know, “Am I on the right page?”

Twitter visitors are different. They come to your Twitter home, review your Tweets, and (ideally) ask, “What’s this person about?” And, “Are you someone I might do business with?”

You need to provide a clear, simple bio and a link to a special landing page designed for Twitter-generated traffic. This single page will serve as a guide to your background, products and services, easily visible in a single glance. This way you make it easy for visitors to recognize you as a potential business ally.

How To Choose Your Autoresponder And Squeeze Pages

Written by petersal on Monday, May 11th, 2009 in Building Traffic.

When you want to build your list of prospects you will definitely need to use an autoresponder, and there are certain things to take into account when deciding which one to use out of the many available to you.You can get autoresponder scripts that you can set up on your own host, and so there is no monthly fee to pay,and you have greater control over your messages and settings, but in all honesty you may be better not using these as they are usually more trouble than they are worth. In addition to the technical hassle of setting them up in the first place, some of the scripts are unreliable, which can do harm your business, and often the autoresponder company may have relationships with the e-mail providers so that these type of scripts are more likely to get caught in the spam filters.

Although it probably will involve a monthly subscription, using a reliable autoresponder company is one of the best things you can do,as this will be a major business tool for your success, and the most commonly used are aWeber,Get Response, and E-mail Aces, with aWeber being the most popular, which is because they have a great reputation and reasonable prices, but all of the previous named have an excellent reputation.

Most companies will allow you to have unlimited lists and will help you organize them and give statistics, such as how many of your messages are opened and which links were clicked, and in addition aWeber now has advanced tracking, which will help you to figure out how to word your future messages.

One thing you do not want is for your messages to get caught in spam filters, because then the chances of people seeing your message are very slim,so you need to make sure the e-mails you send out will pass the spam filters, and that is another service that the top auto responder companies will provide for you by letting you know how likely your e-mail is to be flagged.

So all these points are to be considered when choosing your autoresponder, but you also need a way of collecting these prospect names in the first place, and here is the importance of creating a great Opt-in page or Squeeze page.

The first thing you need to realize is that the goal of your squeeze page is just to collect e-mail addresses,so you do not want to put affiliate offers or articles on this page, because it could distract your visitors from actually leaving their name and e-mail,which is what you are after,so try not to overstuff your squeeze page. While you do not want it to be too cluttered, you do want to put in some compelling text that will convince people to opt in,so around just three hundred words is fine, but do make sure that you include the benefits of signing up for the list, and definitely focus on what is in it for them if they do.

You do this by giving them a reward for free in exchange for their e-mail address, and, while this is not essential,it is a proven, very successful way to increase conversions,so you could give away an e-book,a series of articles,an audio,or anything else you can think of,and some of the physical-based businesses give away coupons or discount codes in exchange for the e-mail address.Certainly, make it very clear to them that the benefits of signing up for the list are greater than the costs, because many people are wary of doing so in this day and age,so you need to make sure you come across as a credible person, and make it very clear that you will never send spam or sell their e-mail address.

Have a look at the squeeze pages that other marketers in your niche use,to see the layout of their pages and how they have designed it,and most likely you will find that these are quite simple, and you can trigger ideas for your own page.

Online business owners often think copywriting starts with putting words together. But before you begin to develop content, you need to step back and develop the most important component in creating a website, blog or social marketing post. To increase traffic and attract targeted clients, you need an energizing vision that motivates your message.

It’s not unusual to feel overwhelmed when you begin to develop your website. And you may not be sure what your Internet presence is supposed to accomplish. But if your vision is not clear, your content will come out sounding fuzzy. Some websites have three or four different headlines on their home page, each making a different promise and pulling the visitor in a different direction.

You can avoid this sense of overwhelm by stepping back before you begin to write. When you start with a vision, you have a strong sense of purpose. Your websites are clear, focused and easy to navigate. You come across as confident and knowledgeable.

So don’t be surprised if your copywriter asks you to clarify your business vision. When your vision is clear, you don’t get hung up on questions like, “How do autoresponders work?” Instead, you ask questions like, “What’s the best way to develop relationships with this type of market?”

Of course, your vision is for your own use. Your clients and prospects probably won’t care about your vision, mission and goals. They want to know how you can help their vision.

A vision isn’t something vague like, “helpping people lead better lives.” Your vision begins by converting a “nice to have” product to create a “must have” for a desperate market. For instance, suppose you are a florist. A nice surprise bouquet for your significant other is a “nice to have.”

But suppose you have been so caught up in your work that you forgot an annniversary. Or suppose you need to send a present to a key business associate and you’re traveling. Now you have a desperate need for a reliable florist. You need someone who will deliver fresh, attractive flowers on time. You can risk a wilted, dreary arrangement.

As an online business owner, you need to find a vision that shows how you will serve these desperate buyers. You will have trouble attracting clients when you have visions like, “Learn more about yourself,” or, “Get better at goal setting.”

But it’s not hard to dig deeper. “Learn more about yourself so you can have more satisfying relationships and stop getting caught up in conflict everyday.” Try, “Secrets of goal setting that will turn your business around.”

Secrets Revealed - How To Convert Traffic To Your Website

Written by askdoctormax on Monday, May 11th, 2009 in Converting Traffic.

Well, it is simple if you pay attention to the details. Here are 12 traffic conversion secrets that even a newcomer to Internet marketing can do:

    1. Fine tune your Unique Selling Proposition (USP). What makes your product different, special, better or more worthy? That is the USP. Now get the answer to that question down to one or two concise sentences.

    2. Sound friendly, not slick. Your sales copy needs to sound like one friend excited to tell another friend about a great buy. Avoid sounding like a high-pressure infomercial.

    3. Ask for help. Give the viewers a reason to interact with you by asking for their opinion on a research or product rating. You get useful information and keep them thinking about your product for a long time.

    4. Simplify the offering. If you have two different products to sell, use two websites. Do not make the mistake of trying to offer too much at once. This might work for major marketers, but they already have a product line and a following.

    5. Leave some free space. Prepare a sales page that is easy to read with wide margins. You do not have to fill every inch. Leaving some white space helps the reader to better focus on the copy.

    6. Brag openly. If your product has a good rating or endorsements from satisfy buyers, then let them brag about the product for you.

    7. Cast with plenty of bait. In your sales copy and squeeze page, put out the bait for your offer again and again. Do not stint on bait. Better too many offers than not enough to convert that buyer who is still uncertain.

    8. Find difficulty. Even after your sales page is complete, keep thinking about other difficulties that your product can resolve. You might get a hint of new ways to advertise your product by asking buyers how they use the product.

    9. Use moderate highlighting. Yes, highlights draw visual attention but too many highlights or excessive colors frustrate online readers.

    10. Package offers are more popular. After presenting your USP, sweeten the offer with a package including several free items as part of the Buy Now deal. Limited time offers create a sense of imperativeness for the buyer to react.

    11. Ask for the order. An old principle of sales that must never be ignored - ask for the order, ask again then ask again. You can not ask various times.

    12. Say Thank you. Have a gracious, personal sounding, Thank you email with the order confirmation. It never hurts to show good manners and buyer appreciation!

Tactics For Recessionary Times Documented By New Study

Written by eSources on Monday, May 11th, 2009 in Converting Traffic.

The recession is global; every retailer is feeling the pinch. Research suggests that it is tougher on bricks and mortar retailers but online retailers are taking a hit as well.

Fortunately, online retailers are the ultimate nimble sellers and they are quickly responding with changing tactics designed to recapture lost business by appealing to the ‘I need a bargain’ point of view common to todays Internet purchasers.

The E-tailing Group, an e-commerce consulting organization, recently completed a study of online merchants meant to capture the changes being implemented at this time. The results are in some ways predictable and in other ways as ingenious as you might expect from this group of business people.

    Clearance Areas

More merchants are either establishing or emphasizing their clearance sales as 86% of merchants noted, up from 72% the year before. Many merchants are creating large banner signs that dominate the page announcing Deal of the Day, Close Outs or Clearance/Sale Items.

    Limited Hour Sales

There has been a huge jump in the limited hour sales strategy from 18% to 42%. These sales are often one day, lunch hour or tonight only type offerings which force purchasers into a buying decision.

    Quantity Purchases

Online retailers are offering discounts for quantity purchases (20%; not measured last year) but there has been a decline in the buy one, get one free offer (down to 6% this year from 8% last year) which is apparently viewed as too generous an offer. Similarly, the tactic of gift with purchase declined from 62% to 44% during this time period.

    Contests

The lure of the opportunity to win has become clear and is being used by 43% of respondents versus 32% last year.

    Coupons/Other Deals with purchase

There is a slight trend towards couponing and a greater trend towards rewarding a sale with a discount on the next sale (4% to 11%).

    Shipping

Shipping opportunities continue to be a strong source of establishing competitive advantage. While free shipping remains an uncommon offer at 8%, free shipping under certain conditions has gone up as much as 9% and free shipping to a store has gone up 11%.

If you are struggling with declining sales revenue or declining conversion rates, you may want to consider adopting one or more of these strategies. However, as with any marketing tactic, you need to do the analysis to be sure that the cost of the tactic, e.g., 10% loss of revenue on certain products, will be made up by the increase in volume of sales.

If you are concerned about margins, you may want to begin with tactics that don’t necessarily cost upfront revenue such as time-limited sales, emphasizing your sale items on landing pages or contests which limit the prize to just a few items or deals.

    Boost Conversions With Painless Shopping

Written by eSources on Sunday, May 10th, 2009 in Converting Traffic.

Have you ever visited a site, liked the products, wanted to buy the products, tried to buy the products and got so annoyed by the purchasing process that you gave up and went elsewhere? It happens all the time because many online sellers do not get the basics right.

    What are the basics?

    - Clear instructions.
    - Clear, customer-friendly policies.
    - Honest, up front information.
    - All the necessary options and supports.

Here are some tips to getting it right to minimize abandoned shopping carts on your site.

    - Be sure that you have provided all of the necessary product information so that the buyer can make a choice, i.e. size, color, quantity, optional features.

    - Let your customer know immediately if the product is not available. Do not make them wait until they get to the shopping cart or even worse, to the end of the ordering process, to find out that they will have to wait. For example, establish a system that greys out sizes that are not available or indicates a backorder delivery date. Or, create system that pops up a message about your re-stocking date.

    - Do not make your buyer wait until the last page to determine shipping costs, especially if they might be considered high. Your site will feel like a bait and switch operation. Even if your shopping carts sequence gets to shipping towards the end, give customers an idea of how shipping works on the first order page or give them the option of clicking into a shipping description.

    - Create a pathway at the top of your shopping pages that tells the buyer where they are and allows them to go back and forth in the process without losing their information. If the buyer takes a wrong turn in the process, build in a re-direction with explanation.

    - Allow the customer to click back to the product page. So they can compare products and be sure they have what they want.

    - Make it easy to find your policies on returns, guarantees of product quality and so on. Try to find the balance between the legal language you feel you need and the plain language that your customer will appreciate.

    - Provide a currency converter so that your customer does not need to guess at what it is really going to cost.

    - Provide several payment methods. Credit cards are not universally common so be sure your customers can use other methods such as PayPal, electronic bank transfer and so on.

    - Give your buyer the option of talking to someone in person, even if it is only for limited hours each day. Some people just can not figure things out or they have questions that you have not anticipated. Plus, supplying a phone number gives your site a credibility that many sites lack.

Buyers generally dislike sites where there is no option for personal contact or where it is possible, but you need to go through many, many screens to find a phone number buried underneath all of the directions to email or read the FAQs.

Finally, be a student of shopping. You are probably shopping online yourself. Evaluate everyones shopping process. Think about your own responses and apply the lessons to your site.

Building A Relationship With Your Blog Audience

Written by eSources on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 in Site Promotion.

As on online retailer, your blog is a golden opportunity to interact with your customers. You can show them how much you care about the product, demonstrate your level of expertise in the area and find out what your customers are thinking about. Take full advantage of this opportunity with some of these sure fire successful strategies.

    - If you can manage it, send an email to new posters, thanking them for participating. There is nothing like positive feedback to keep someone coming back.

    - Add a Tell Your Friends link to your blog. If you sell fishing equipment, the posters are likely to be fishermen and just as likely, they will have friends who are fishermen as well. It is a great way to use your customers to help you market your site.

    - Include personalization in your responses. If you are responding to Shirley, thank her by name at the end of your post or note that she asked a great question that gave you a good opportunity to discuss an important subject.

    - Read posts and respond if you can. There is always a special thrill that comes with receiving proof that there is a real person behind all of the web paraphanalia.

    - Link your posts. For example, if you are talking about the problems of affording medical care on your medical device site, be sure that when the issue comes up again, that you link back to your original comment as well.

    - Add guest bloggers to your site. If you sell classic DVDs, you may want to ask a friend who is a Laurence Olivier or Sophia Lauren afficionado to weigh in on which were their top career movies. If you sell educational supplies, you may want to get an experienced teacher to talk about how she uses your materials in her classroom.

    - Try to become a guest blogger on synergistic sites. If you sell luggage, you might want to go on someone s discount cruise ticket site and blog about how to pack for a cruise and which luggage makes the most sense.
Encourage participation by asking a question. If you sell womens handbags, ask a question like, How many different handbags do you typically use each month? or What are the three biggest items you carry in your handbag? You will get lots of responses that will both generate interest and may give you some valuable feedback.

Or, take the question format a bit further and create a survey. If you sell soaps, you can ask a whole series of questions about skin type and soap purchase, soap purchase as gifts vs personal use, effect of colors and fragrances on purchasing, value of packaging versus economy of just buying soap, etc.

You can then promise to publish the results of your survey with your commentary on those results.

    - Okay, take it another step further. Offer a reward for participating in a survey. Give a discount coupon, create a raffle or give access to special information that you otherwise charge for.

As you can see, the blog is a very important way to bond with your customers, develop loyalty to your site and your products, and gain valuable market research.

Source from the web’s largest verified wholesalers & legitimate dropshippers directory. Also wholesale suppliers, wholesale dropshippers and dropship distributors. Browse by country: Italian wholesalers & wholesale Italy and Wholesale Hong Kong wholesalers.

The Importance Of Your Keywords In Pay Per Click Advertising

Written by petersal on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 in Site Promotion.

Pay per click advertising is the quickest way to bring in money to your business and is becoming ever more widely used,so learning the techniques used is very important, the purpose being to get prospective customers to click on your ad,which will then take them to your sales pages and hopefully result in a sale for you.

You chose words or phrases that you think that someone would type into a search engine when looking for your category of product, and these words are your keywords. To use pay per click advertising you bid a certain amount for a keyword and when someone searches for that keyword and clicks on your ad,you are debited,by the search engine, the amount that you bid for that keyword, and the person who clicked on your ad will land on your website, and hopefully your site will convert enough people into sales so that you are in profit. This works better than the usual ads where you pay a certain amount of money no how many people view or respond to your ad,which might even be zero, but with pay per click advertising you are only focusing on those people who are truly interested in what you have to offer,so if they do not respond it costs you nothing.

People responding to your ad does not,of course, guarantee sales, but there are certain things you can do to increase your chances of making these, one of which is to make sure that you choose keywords that are very focused on what you have to offer, because if you just choose general keywords you will not convert as well as long tail keywords that are more tightly focused. You also need to make the keyword very relevant to your ad as many pay per click engines will highlight the key word within the ad,which makes it stand out more to prospective buyers,so getting the keyword part right is of the utmost importance to avoid spending money on the wrong keywords.
This is done by tracking your ads to see what keyword is converting, and there are a few different ways to do this. You can get software or script programs that will work with your advertising campaign and tell you exactly which keywords are converting and leading to sales,or you can also do this yourself by adding tracking IDs to the end of your URLs.

You need to check your conversions and decide if and when to cut your losses, probably every day,so a good rule of thumb is to drop a keyword if it has not converted after 200-300 clicks and then you are no longer losing money with the slow converting keyword, but if a particular keyword has converted, but not too well, then you might want to expand on it and check it again next day to see how it does then, and increase its conversions even more.

Finally,it is very likely that some ads are simply much better performers than most of the others, and when you have found these super keywords and ads,you will definitely want to develop them by creating more ads on other pay per click search engines to grab some of that traffic as well, and start to focus on search engine ranking for those proven keywords through natural search engine optimization, and thus get organic traffic too

You should also consider that when clicking on your ad your prospect is taken to your landing page on your website, which should also match the key word in the ad so the visitor gets a natural flow to their search,

Obviously it will take some work to learn and study as much as you can about pay per click advertising before you get started, but the rewards are worth every bit of effort.

Put Your Website on Auto Pilot with Automated Traffic Generators

Written by sparkie2260 on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 in Site Promotion.

While every visitor to your website is always a welcome visitor, as Internet marketers, we want to drive targeted traffic to our websites. It would be great to get a million hits a day, but what if out of those million you only produced a singular sales conversion or sign-up? It would be far better to only get one hundred hits and convert 10, right? That’s why you need to learn not just about how to drive traffic to your site, but how to drive traffic that is comprised of people directly interested in what you are promoting (your niche).

Attract niche-specific traffic to your websites in droves by using the powerful Traffic Geyser. It uses the unmatched strength of videos to deliver masses of targeted traffic to your sites - and the instant result is an excellent increase in your ROI!

    Keywords:

You must understand the concepts of keyword phrases and keyword placement. Keywords are just words. They are words that you, as an Internet marketer, choose and then strategically place throughout the content that you provide for surfers to learn from. For instance, let’s say that you wish to target the niche that desires fresh information concerning “container gardening in northern states”. You would go about creating content in the form of articles, blog posts, YouTube videos, Squidoo lenses, FaceBook and MySpace posts and more that are keyword-based with those given words.

In this way, you are flooding the Internet with content that shows up in search engine results when the people from your targeted niche enter their search terms on major search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN. Keywords are simply the word phrases that you predict that your niche will be searching for! Traffic Machines is another Internet-leading traffic generator that you can utilize to create a huge difference in your site’s visitor numbers. Using high-tech software like this is the way to put your Internet Marketing efforts on autopilot. Why struggle unnecessarily?

Speaking of keeping things simple, there’s another application for automatically driving the targeted traffic that you need to your sites. It’s called Easy Push Button Traffic
and it makes your duties as an Internet marketer seem effortless. Using effective software like this allows you to enjoy the finer things in life - like your family, traveling, art - and your personal time.

If you are serious about making money online, then you need to educate yourself about why so many people fail at it. It is not because it cannot be done. It is done constantly by many! You have to employ proven techniques and do so diligently. Forget about driving 10 million people to your site and begin to create multiple sites that each target a specific and well-defined niche. Drive targeted traffic to your site and appease the search engines with high-quality, well-written, relevant information. The search engines are constantly scouring the Internet every time a search is made to produce quality results for the searchers. Give them that quality content and they will reward you with directly interested, presold traffic that is just begging to give you some of their cash!

When it comes to traffic - go for quality, not quantity!

Traffic Generation Tips - Track Your Traffic

Written by ChristianOC on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 in Building Traffic.

I remember when I first started in the world of internet marketing a few years ago. I was amazed at the concept of billions of dollars flying across the internet every day in exchange for goods and services! I remember thinking, “I only want a few hundred dollars profit every day … how hard can it be?”

Well, it turns out it’s pretty hard to generate revenue online. Actually, let me rephrase that: it turns out it takes time, experience, and patience in order to generate revenue online.

The first hurdle I had to overcome in the world of internet marketing was how to get traffic without selling my own blood to get it. So, I developed my own methods for traffic generation, all of them free, and lo and behold, I got traffic and lots of it!

Then came the sporadic sales: $10 here, $100 there, and soon my internet marketing bank account started to swell. I had figured out how to dip my hand into the ever constant flow of money on the internet and take a few dollars for myself. It was wonderful. I had found a business concept that allowed me to work from home and earn money.

After establishing a decent monthly income to pay the bills and enjoy a nice dinner every once in a while, I started wondering where exactly my converting traffic was coming from. It’s great to get sales, but I began to realize how important it was to know exactly where the traffic originated.

Look at it this way: if I had built 100 locations on the internet for generating traffic to my product, and only 25 of them were actually generating sales, it would be a smart idea to replicate those 25 locations again, wouldn’t it? Yes, it would! If I knew exactly which 25 locations produced sales, I could bypass the other 75 areas and increase my earnings exponentially with less effort.

That’s when I started researching how to track my traffic. If you’re an affiliate marketer, it’s pretty easy. Every affiliate network and CPA network will allow you to attach what is called a ’subid’ to your affiliate links. For subids, I usually pick a simple abbreviation of the traffic source and then a number directly after it.

For example, I own two dozen squidoo lenses that generate traffic for home improvement tools. For each link, I use a subid in the following format: squi1234. The “squi” tells me that the traffic came from my squidoo lenses, and the “1234″ tells me exactly which lens the visitor came from.

The subid gets attached to the end of my affiliate link. Whenever someone clicks on that link, the affiliate network tracks the subid. When I log into my affiliate account, I can generate reports on clicks and actual conversions. I will know immediately which squidoo lenses are generating traffic, which of them are generating sales, and which ones are doing absolutely nothing.

If you aren’t a part of an affiliate network and you are trying to track your own traffic to better understand where your traffic is coming from (and want to know exactly which traffic source is converting), you will need to install professional tracking software.

There are paid tracking systems and there are free tracking systems, such as Google Analytics, which can help you track your Adwords traffic. And Google’s Webmaster Tools can help you analyze your internet traffic, converting keywords, and converting traffic sources. It can also show you where your website seems to fail in the conversion process.

Google’s free tracking tools are great because they’re free and they teach you how to get started tracking results. The downfall is they miss a lot of data. I’d guess they will miss at least 50% of your results because their tracking methods are weak and quite often fail to track any data whatsoever. What’s the solution? Pixel Tracking Software.

Pixel tracking software can be expensive to purchase and complicated to install. But in my opinion, it’s the best method for tracking conversion data. Your profits and or lead generation rates will soar once you implement a pixel tracking system on your site. Not only will your conversion rates increase, your marketing spend will decrease at the same time. It’s worth the time and investment to install professional tracking software!
