Verizon FiOS: Excellent Support Means No More Waiting For The Cable Guy

Written by RussellBlanc on Saturday, May 31st, 2008 in Internet.

Verizon FiOS: Excellent Support Means No More Waiting for the Cable Guy

If you currently have cable Internet and/or television, ask yourself how happy you are with the reliability, and with the customer service you get when you call for help. Most cable customers would happily choose another provider, if someone else offered the same speed, quality and content options at a comparable price. Verizon Fios goes one better.

Cable Internet providers brag about their high speeds and fiber-optic networks, but there’s one fact they’re leaving out. The fiber-optic networks cable providers use stop at your curb. Your Internet access enters and leaves your home over conventional analog connections, because cable fiber-optic networks do not extend into your home. Verizon FiOS is the first Internet service to extend fiber-optic connection all the way to your computer. This means FiOS is far faster than cable.

Verizon FiOS is also more reliable than cable Internet, again because the signal travels over digital fiber-optic networks exclusively. You won’t find a more stable Internet service provider than Verizon’s new FiOS service. It’s simply the best in terms of uptime and reliability.

You’ll also find the quality of your connection is much better with Verizon FiOS; you won’t have the equivalent of a brownout when your connection seems to falter, as it often does with cable and DSL. With Verizon FiOS, you get the always-on connection you pay for.

And if you currently have cable, you’ll appreciate that Verizon FiOS comes with better, more courteous and more helpful customer service technicians than you may get with your current provider. While you should find yourself needing customer support far less often with Verizon FiOS, when you do need it, you’ll have a pleasant experience and get your problem solved quickly.

When you sign up with Verizon FiOS, you’ll get access to a library of great content, including games, gaming reviews and news, movie trailers and reviews and exclusive interviews, and music reviews and features mixes exclusive to Verizon users.

As you can see, Verizon FiOS does not offer the “same speed, quality and content options” as cable; it offers much faster connections, with better quality and excellent content. You’ll also be surprised to find it does not cost about the same as cable, but actually costs less, with plans starting at $42.99 monthly.

If you’re currently using cable Internet, ask yourself how happy you are with the service. If your answer falls short of “extremely thrilled”, isn’t it time to go with better, faster, and cheaper? When you sign up with Verizon FiOS for one year, you’ll get a free professional installation, connect to the Internet at blazingly fast speeds, pay less per month than you’re currently spending on cable, and get the excellent quality and professional support you expect from an Internet service provider.

Verizon FiOS offers an alternative to the cable company—an alternative that most people will agree is far superior to the service offered by cable or DSL. Your Internet service is an important part of your life, and you expect and deserve the best.

Monetizing Your Website Through Affiliate Programs

Written by AlanCheng on Saturday, May 31st, 2008 in Marketing.

Affiliate programs are what most marketers concentrate on who are in the business to make money online. For some of us, we may have hobby websites but even those websites cost us money to a certain extent. Although there are many different ways that you can make money with your website, offering a relevant affiliate program is probably one of the easiest along with being one of the most profitable. Where can you find these affiliate programs and how can you match them up with your particular website?

There are a lot of different places where you can find affiliate programs. Some of the most popular include ClickBank and Commission Junction. Each of these particular websites gives you access to thousands of different individual affiliates through their system.

ClickBank offers digital products and things such as e-books and downloadable software while Commission Junction gives you access to thousands of real-world businesses and their websites in categories such as travel, clothing, insurance and a whole multitude of other options. Between these two particular systems, it should be easy for you to pick out an affiliate that matches up very well with your particular audience.

Another popular type of affiliate advertising that you can put on your website is found through programs such as Max Bounty or a Azoogle Ads. These companies team up with very specific types of affiliates, ones that are typically looking for a lead of some sort. It is fairly easy to find an affiliate program through one of the systems that you can match up with your website as well. These programs tend to pay very well for the lead but you may have a difficult time finding a lead program within the system that lasts for a long period of time.

Many of these programs are there on a temporary basis so you have to strike while the iron’s hot, make your money and check periodically to make sure that the affiliate is still active.

Matching a program with your particular audience is not a very difficult thing to do. At times, however, your audience may be relatively general and may not fit into a particular niche. In this case, check out one of the pay per lead affiliate programs as you may be able to match it loosely to your visitors. If you find one that converts well, you’ll be surprised at how much money you can make with a simple affiliate program like this.

Affiliate programs are a means to increase your online business revenue. At the end of the day, you need an online business which is yours. Your business should concentrate on a niche which includes these related affiliate programs you can recommend to your prospects.

What many internet marketers forget is that instead of sending people directly to affiliate programs, they should send them to an opt-in page so that the emails are captured first. The selling of the affiliate programs occur in the autoresponder series. All this happens after you have captured the email addresses.

A good example of an optin form is at http://www.trafficbeast.com/newsletter Here you can see that the whole point of the web page is to capture the email addresses before emails are delivered to recommend affiliate programs that are of value.

Laser Welding Ins And Outs You Don’t Know

Written by JustinBoyce on Saturday, May 31st, 2008 in Computers and Technology.

Laser welding plastics is a fairly new process. It super heats the polymer without physical contact. Most applications processes are done by, directing the beam of infrared light. Directly at the weld joint. This is done by going through one of the parts. Commonly referred to as, through transmission.

By directing infrared beam of infrared light at the weld joint via( a laser)welding. This technique, the infrared beam, usually a laser, irradiates the joint through a part and the light is absorbed at the surface of the other. While broad band infrared beams can be used, the monochromatic lasers allow very fast heating of small areas of the part that allows the parts to be welded very rapidly, but with very small changes to the geometry part.

Laser welding is a example of electromagnetic plastic welding process. Once radiant energy it has been directed towards polymer surface, a series of three things will happen to it, most of the light transmits through, some is absorbed, and some is reflected away. The application the process involves directing the beam of infrared light towards the weld joint through one of the parts. The part (laser) that transmits most of the energy will not heat, but the absorbing part will super heat .Most virgin, organic polymers will not absorb energy. Certain dyes and fillers such as carbon black are used. To absorb the energy at the weld joint interface. This is commonly called to as through transmission infrared (or laser) welding. Welding results when materials are heated to a molten state and fused together.

One type of material must transmit the laser light while the other absorbs it, While converting it to heat. The great news is that the materials must be transmissive. This all depends on formulation of the pigment. Joints that require optical clarity can be done by the use of special coatings types. Thermoplastics, Laser welding, resin compatibility , resin chemistry or melt temperature differences than most all other plastic welding processes these days.

Nd:YAG laser welding is used commercially, a wide range of C-Mn steels, stainless steels, coated steels, molybdenum, titanium, and aluminum alloys. Low heat input welding. These lasers is utilized in the electronics, domestic items, automotive sectors, the most interest has been shown more recently, to particularly for the high power CW lasers in the shipping industry. Oil and gas, R&D issues involving development of highly powered lasers of better beam quality, the use of distributed energy in the beam focus, maintenance for both thick and thin sections and weld classification.

Light energy is generated by lasers. That can be absorbed into materials and converted to heat energy. Laser emits coherent radiation. Lasers do minimal divergence that can travel over significant distances without loss of beam quality or energy.

Relatively new techniques in Laser welding have been compared to other plastic welding processes. Dedicated laser labs at EWI’s are equipped with lasers creating and analyzing plastics welding. The laser beam used to melt the base material and filler rod, this process becomes line of sight ,as well as focal point limited process. If you cannot get a straight shot, or you can’t re-line the position of the weld area, it will not work efficiently or correctly. Microscopic magnification is also is used in the laser welding process.

The system is capable of welding materials that are galvannealed, electroplated or hot-dipped galvanized, that the coating thickness be both consistent on top of surface of the material, as well as controlled to 14 microns or less. The 3-kW diffusion-cooled slab laser used in the Utica system can be used to weld materials, ie mild steel, high-strength steel, stainless steel, aluminum. The biggest driving factor behind the development of laser welding is the fact that it makes the cans more esthetically attractive.

Beam delivery used optics that are mounted directly on the laser housing and fixed in focal length and beam position relative to the housing. Moveable part concept ,diode lasers mounted on robotics. Multiple-beam processing is new , relatively new field that has the potential. Enhancing the capabilities of high intensity laser and electron beam process.

Post heating, multiple-beam laser preheating is shown, first presented and analyzed. Followed by multiple-beam flow. this application electron beam welding. Other applications using laser machining and cladding. Particles with high melting points were distributed on the plate material in order to see the motions of these particles. And the enclosed motions of the melt pool during welding with different type of process gases. Photos show a change in the melt flow direction ,with active gas components towards the center of the pool and downwards towards the root side.

Roger Hathaway from Arcor laser is experienced in laser welding and knows the difficulties that arise from meeting the demands of the 21st century manufacturing by utilizing the many benefits realized by laser materials processing.

Using Free Tools To Find And Assess Unregistered Domain Names

Written by DeeButeland on Saturday, May 31st, 2008 in Internet.

If you have an idea for a new web site, but don’t know which domain to buy for it, here is some guidance on using some free tools which can help.

First, assessing the name. Experience has shown that using keywords in the domain name may help with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and gaining traffic.

This is not because the well-known search engines give any more weight to keywords which are in the domain name when ranking pages, but because users can see from the domain name itself, when it appears in the search engines listings, what your site is about. If they are interested in the subject, they will click through. In addition, since you are likely to use the same keywords in the title and descriptions of your site then you are doing some automatic and legitimate SEO.

We have one niche health site which undoubtedly gets extra traffic because it is very obvious from the domain name what the site is dedicated to; and we have only naturally acquired backlinks. The site is number 1 in Yahoo and number 2 in Google for a search on the three-word health term which makes up its domain name. Of course, for search terms with minor to average search volumes, this is still not that difficult.

We’ll assume that you accept that using keywords in a domain name may be helpful. How do you find domains which are still free, which use your keywords?

Actually, this is the wrong question. What you want to know is – what phrases are people using to find sites related to my keywords? In other words, what are they actually searching for? Never assume you know this already.

This is where some free tools can help you. We use Keyword Discovery, which is a subscription service, but they also offer a non-expiring free trial, which you can use to do your keyword research for your new domains. If you are a serious internet marketer, you may find you come to rely on it for other marketing purposes. In online marketing, good information equals good money for you.

Actually using Keyword Discovery is probably easier that describing it, but essentially you can use its searches to find out the phrases people are typing in to various engines which are related to your target keyword, and to drill down into particular phrases (or ‘queries’ as it calls them). You can then see the actual number of searches each phrase is getting. Obviously, you want to ‘target’ a new domain by finding a two or three word phrase for it which is getting good search volume.

Once you have made a list of likely phrases, and written them down, then you can use other free search tools to check if a .com domain name version is still free. You can do this crudely, by simply typing a likely name into the address field of a browser, and checking if the domain exists as a web site already; or you can go to a domain name registrar like Godaddy and use their search tool. If the domain is still free, you can buy it right away.

We think you’ll agree that this two-step system is a better method than simply guessing on a good domain name to use.

How To Avoid Being A Spam Target

Written by AndreasStiasny on Saturday, May 31st, 2008 in Internet.

In the last few years the amount of spam mail has risen extraordinarily. Today the majority of mail messages that are tried to be delivered is spam. Nevertheless the amount of spam that is seen by end users is lower than some time ago because spam filters have evolved and improved their quality. Of course spam filters have disadvantages also. There is always a small risk that you lose messages that are not spam (false positives) and spam filters can be a considerable resource drag.

If there would be a way to avoid handling all these spam messages (or at least most of them) on the mail server, your mail server would require less CPU power, less disk space for log files, less traffic and the chances for false positives would be much lower if you could adjust your spam filter to be less aggressive or even completely avoid the need to use it. There are a number of things you can do to achieve this. These tips only work for a new email address or a new domain. If you already receive lots of spam it is nearly impossible to get out of all the spam databases.

Hide your email address. Spammers only will be able to send you spam if they know your email address. If you don’t need to make your email address public, just give it to your friends and business partners but don’t put it on a web site.

Make it hard to guess your email address. Address brokers and spammers (or their software) often try to guess email addresses to be able to sell them or send spam to them. Make your address hard to guess. If you own the domain example.com don’t use simple addresses like bob@example.com. Use a combination of your first name and your surname or add a number. You might also consider to use a subdomain for mail. Your new address might be something like bobr@mail.example.com.

Use a contact form on your web site. To avoid publishing your email address on your web site you can use a contact form. That way your visitors are still able to send you inquiries via your web site but spammers will not be able to harvest your email address. To avoid getting spam via the contact form you can use some form of captcha.

If you have to publish your email address make it hard to read for machines. In some countries companies are required to publish their email address on their web site. If you have to do this make it in a way that is hard to read for machines. If you put your email address into a gif image and show that image on your site, customers will be able to see your address but harvesting robots will not. Your visitors will not be able to send you mail by clicking on your email address but will have to write your address into their email client manually.

Don’t put a bunch of addresses in the Cc field. If you send the same mail to a big number of receivers, don’t put all their email addresses in the To or Cc field (especially if some of the receivers don’t know some of the others). That way you would give all of the addresses to all of the receivers. It is better to either use the Bcc field or mailing list software. Instruct your mail partners to do the same.

Use a different email address for newsletters and shopping sites. Of course sometimes you have to give your email address to people you don’t know. You might want to subscribe to a newsletter or order something from an online shop. It is advisable to use a second address for these cases so you don’t have to use your good address. If you have your own domain you might even consider to use a new email address for every shop or newsletter. If one of these email addresses starts receiving spam you can deactivate it without affecting your other mail contacts.

Last but not least - Never buy anything from a spammer. Spamming is done because it is profitable. That’s the only reason. If nobody would buy the products advertised in spam mails, spammers would not earn anything and would stop spamming. So the most important individual measure against spam is still and will be forever: Never buy anything from a spammer!

    Reseller Hosting

Written by ChrisB. on Saturday, May 31st, 2008 in Internet.

Reseller hosting is gaining popularity all over as a solid money-making opportunity with an increase in the number of people opting for this interesting business. Reseller hosting means purchasing a plan or a dedicated server for the purpose of establishing your own company. When you purchase this hosting plan, then you can distribute web hosting services to your customers. And a variety of business of all sizes, small through large, are actively taking part in this business opportunity from educational institutions offering web hosting to students and teachers, to associations and other organizations offering hosting to members and staff, to the work-at-home entrepreneur offing hosting to his or her clients.

    Types of Web Hosting Services

There are various types of web hosting services that can be used for selling purposes. Some companies purchase particular types of web hosting and further sell it to their customers. For example, generally it is observed that small companies buy a larger number of web hosting services. Then either they buy a dedicated server or opt for a small reseller hosting plan.

All anyone basically needs for starting a plan is an internet connection and a computer. In fact, nowadays reseller hosting is proving to be a great attraction for the larger companies too, as the operations involved are so basic.

There are various benefits of reseller hosting. These include:

    1) One of the main benefits is regular and balanced revenue. It forms a source of additional income for the companies. Nowadays internet has become a crucial part of our life and so the websites too form an integral part. Each person wishes to have his or her own website. This has provided the necessary boost to reseller hosting and it occupies a vital place in the market. The competition in this field is relatively less, so there are no risks or losses. Each company has its own space in the market and so there is ample scope for new developments and breakthroughs.

    2) Also there are no comparisons between small and large companies when it comes to reseller hosting. The smaller companies too play a significant role and are equally competent in comparison to the larger ones. The smaller companies are not treated as inferior in this field and prove to be tough contenders. When you buy the reseller plan you are provided with some disk space. You can separate this into a number of accounts and distribute them amongst your clients. You can also decide the amount you charge for each small part that you sell. This leaves a lot of room for profits and monetary gains.

    3) You should find out the type of hosting you are interested in. You should also decide the market you want to enter before buying the reseller plan. You should also be aware of the technical aspects like disk space, control panels and bandwidth. If you are interested in purchasing web hosting from any company you should check the reseller plan which they offer for the best features and benefits for you and your clients.

In summary, there are various companies which offer reseller hosting. You can find out more about companies providing services and find which one best suits your needs and interests. Reseller hosting is ideal for those in the field of web designing and those wishing to initiate their own business, both interesting and attractive fields. You can also browse the internet where you will find information about different companies providing these services.

Cell Phones and You, On the Move

Written by K.Lynn on Saturday, May 31st, 2008 in Computers and Technology.

With the technology available to us today we are no longer tethered to our homes and offices when we have the need to access our email or the Internet. With portable computers, hand held devices, and aircards we now have the ability to work or play from virtually anywhere in the world.

    What Is An Aircard

An aircard is, simply put, a device that connects to your laptop via your USB or PCMCIA slot. The device becomes a wireless modem for your laptop, allowing you to have the same type of Internet access you would at home or in the office when plugged into your network or phone line. Mobile carriers that use SIM card technology will give you the ability to switch between using your SIM card in your aircard or in your cell phone, so long as you have the data plan enabled on it.

Where Can An Aircard Be Purchased

An aircard can be easily purchased from your mobile carrier for use on their network. Aircards purchased from your carrier will be locked to their network; this means that you can only use your aircard on their particular network. This can restrict you a bit when traveling, especially internationally, because you are tied to your “home” mobile network. You have the ability, additionally, to purchase an aircard directly from a retailer that specializes in mobile products. These aircards will be unlocked and can be used on any wireless network.

    Locked vs. Unlocked

The main difference between buying locked or unlocked aircard will often be price. Mobile carriers can offer aircards that are locked to their network at heavily discounted prices. However, you will often need to be tied into a minimum of a one year contract with your carrier. Additionally, if you switch to another mobile carrier you will need to purchase a new aircard to ensure that you have one that works on your new network. Purchasing an unlocked aircard will, initially, be a more expensive investment but consider the benefits. You will not be locked into a length contract with your mobile carrier, giving you the freedom to switch between carriers; this can be especially useful if you are a frequent international traveler since it’s often more cost effective to use a local cellular provider when traveling in foreign countries. Depending on your mobile provider, you can often ask them to provide you with an unlock code for your aircard device; a quick phone call to explain your travel needs should take care of this with them.

    Cost

Depending on if you opt for an aircard from your provider or an unlocked card from another retailer, your aircard can be purchased for under $300. Many providers will often provide the aircard to you for free if you agree to sign a two year contract with them. The biggest expense that you will need to keep an eye out for is going to be the cost of the data plan. If you plan on using your aircard frequently then it will be worth it to you to sign up for the unlimited data plan offered by your carrier. Choosing a plan with a low data allowance can get you into trouble with high bills at the end of your billing cycle if you happen to go over your limit. An unlimited data plan can often be found for about $49 a month.

    Choosing An Aircard

Before making your decision to purchase an aircard consider talking to your mobile carrier to find out what they can offer you in terms of type of aircard and rate plans. It may be as simple as changing your plan to include unlimited data, many carriers will then offer the aircard to you at no additional cost. If you are considering going the route of purchasing your aircard from another retailer be sure to do your research on the products you are considering.

What Is Structured Cabling For Computer LAN Networks?

Written by ColinYao on Saturday, May 31st, 2008 in Computers and Technology.

    :: What is structured cabling?

Modern computer LAN (local area network) wiring has the concept of structured cabling.

With today’s high speed networks, people realize that the networking system must be broken up into shorter chunks that allow workstation wiring to be concentrated, with each cable length short enough to support the high data rate.

Based on aforementioned reasons, structured wiring standard has been developed to help define a computer wiring system that stays within the maximum wiring distance for various LAN topologies. For example, the horizontal cable wiring length is 100 meters for 100BaseT networks.

:: What do we do to observe the 100 meters wiring standard?

In order to achieve the wiring concentration standard, telecommunication rooms (wiring centers) are placed at planned locations in a building. These telecom rooms are then interconnected to provide the total network connectivity for the building.

This can be explained in a three stories building. At one same corner of each floor, a telecom rooms is constructed; these telecom rooms are then connected by backbone wiring (cables run vertically through the floors and link all telecom rooms together).

On each floor, a telecom room concentrates all workstation cables for that floor. Each workstation has a wall mounted jack. The network cable is terminated at that jack and runs directly to the telecom room. The cable may run in wire trays or conduit, or be draped over supports such as a drop ceiling. For larger floors, more than one telecom room may be needed.

    :: Horizontal Cabling

The horizontal wires, which run from workstations on the same floor to the telecom room, are then terminated on punchdown termination, or directly onto a patch panel. The punchdown terminations or patch panels could be rack mounted (19” or 23” racks), cabinet mounted or wall mounted.

In the telecom room, network equipment such as a hub or switch is connected to each station cable, which electrically terminates the cable run. The hub or switch then passes the computer signal on to other work stations or servers, or even to other telecom rooms for ultimate connectivity with the entire network.

    :: Vertical Cabling (Backbone Cabling)

Telecom rooms on each floor are then connected together by backbone cabling (also called vertical cabling for floor to floor connections). These backbone cablings typically are done from floor to floor to floor.

Usually telecom rooms should be located directly above one another in order to minimize the cable runs length, but this also varies from building to building.

With the emerge of Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet, fiber optic cable is the most appropriate choice for backbone cabling since they provide much higher bandwidth than traditional Cat5, Cat6 or even Cat7 twisted pair copper cables. Another advantage of fiber is that fibers can run much longer distance than copper cable, which makes them especially attractive for backbone cabling.

:: The difference between backbone cabling and horizontal cabling

Since backbone cabling typically passes through from floor to floor, the cables used for backbone cabling have very different requirement than the horizontal cablings.

    1. Fire ratings. Backbone cables must have standard imposed fire rating specifications. Typically this is OFNR (Optical Fiber Non-Conductive Riser) rated. If the backbone cable passes through plenum area (spaces in the building used for air return in air conditioning), the cable must be OFNP (Optical Fiber Non-conductive Plenum) rated.

    2. Physical securing. Physical securing for vertical riser cables is also different than horizontal cables. So is the cable strength, since vertical riser cables need to have enough strength to support its own weight.
